About this deal

In Tier II, Abominations can serve as a council of underbosses, each with their own contingent of Malisons, Purebloods, and Broodguards.

A yuan-ti hatchling sheds its skin 5-6 times before reaching maturity, which happens in 4 years for purebloods, 6 years for halfbloods, and 8 years for abominations. Rarely, adults may undergo another growth spurt, as a sign of divine favor. Purebloods can live about 2,000 years, halfbreeds 4,000 years, and abominations about 6,000 years. Ability Score Increase. When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. You can't raise any of your scores above 20.

They are descended from an ancient empire ruled over by serpent gods and dark rituals. The Abominations are the most monstrous and serpentine of the Yuan-Ti. Abominations in Yuan-Ti Society In combat one of the Yuan-Ti purebloods tries to hold the line while the second moves into room 4 to alert its allies.

( Wizards of the Coast), p. 10–11. ISBN 0-7869-3277-5. If the sacrifice is completed, all of the Yuan-Ti purebloods and malisons enter a stupor as the presence of Merrshaulk rises in their minds, while the stronger-willed Pit Master Yaotal and abominations observe and continue their prayers. During the next hour, all Yuan-Ti purebloods and malisons are considered stunned as the snake god fills their mind. After the hour passes, a final series of ritual prayers are performed before the Yuan-Ti return to their various stations. Many months ago, a Yuan-Ti abomination named Ssilkashla discovered ancient rituals written on dusty scrolls in a distant Yuan-Ti ruin. The scrolls outlined a path for her to transform into a Yuan-Ti Anathema, an immortal serpentine demigod that would rule over all lesser Yuan-Ti. Ssilkashla established this new temple with a small congregation of Yuan-Ti Purebloods and Malisons to serve as her base of operations while she prepared the ritual. Ssilkashla’s Pureblood agents in the world above have been kidnapping humanoids to serve as the bloody sacrifices Ssilkashla needs to fuel her ascension. Ed Greenwood, Sean K. Reynolds, Skip Williams, Rob Heinsoo (June 2001). Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 225. ISBN 0-7869-1836-5. Bite. You have sharp snake fangs, which are natural weapons you are proficient with. They deal 1d4 piercing and 1d4 poison damage, and have the finesse property.

Mageslayers, another rare type of yuan-ti, are bred for the special purpose of battling or hunting down human magic-users, and most of their abilities are magical rather than psionic. Mageslayers have a humanlike head but a snakelike tail instead of legs. They first appeared in Serpent Kingdoms. There are only two reasons why a yuan-ti abomination would opt for fear over simply beating the tar out of its opponents: First, it’s protecting some kind of sacred or otherwise important place, and keeping trespassers away is its foremost priority. Second, its opponents are tougher than it bargained for, and it’s losing the fight.

Holy guardians are a rare breed specifically bred as temple guards; they are also sent on missions to obtain needed goods for abomination priests. Holy guardians are naturally servile and follow their superiors without question. They uniformly have a serpentine tail in place of legs and a snakelike head. They first appeared in Serpent Kingdoms. Osssra is an oil that, when burned, confers benefits on yuan-ti but acts as a poison to other races. Its smoke is strangely multi-colored. Osssra is described in detail in Serpent Kingdoms, and various "antidotes" to osssra, known as ophiotoxins, were described in Dragon #355. Yuan-ti favored bladed weapons. They used slow-acting poisons in their elaborate traps but not typically on their blades. [6] Society [ ] This section assumes that you’re using the option updated versions of the race, including the “Customizing Your Origin” rules presented in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and/or the updated version published in Mordenkainen’s Monsters of the Multiverse. Because the race changed so little between those two versions, I have decided to combine these two sections. If you’re not using those rules, scroll down to the “Classic Rules” section. Artificer If all goes well, the yuan-ti may try to retreat with a fresh body or two (the unconscious PC and perhaps another with a well worded suggestion) to turn into a brood guard.

Produce Acid: The yuan-ti can exude acid from its body, dealing 1d6 points of damage to anything it touches. The acid becomes inert when it leaves the yuan-ti's body. This dungeon has two variants: the pre-ascension dungeon is built for level 5-6 and takes place just days before Ssilkashla’s ritual is completed. The post-ascension dungeon is built for levels 7-9 and takes place several days after the ritual is completed. Some of the rooms in this dungeon have different contents depending when the adventure takes place, described under the Pre-Ascension and Post-Ascension headers. Yuan-ti were originally humans who transformed themselves into serpent folk through ancient rituals. Most yuan-ti were corrupted into monsters by those rites, but some yuan-ti instead became a new people who mix characteristics of humans and snakes.
