If you feel in need of some real seasoning this holiday, then get this book for yourself, well in advance of Christmas.

Nigella Lawson is the author of bestselling books - How to Eat ('may just be the best cookery book ever' Daily Telegraph), How to be a Domestic Goddess (British Book Awards 2001), Nigella Bites (WHSmith Award 2002) Forever Summer ('images of warmth and Mediterranean climes' Time Out), Feast, ('a voluptuous and delicious piece of food writing' Guardian), Nigella Express (no. How lovely to make a midnight kitchen raid, snag the last homemade roll with a slice of ham or turkey and top it with a dollop of relish or chutney! Illustrated with 150 fabulous full-colour photographs by Lis Parsons (photographer of the bestselling NIGELLA EXPRESS), including method photos and lavish double-page 'spreads', Nigella Christmas is in a new, irresistible format.

Merry Christmas, Buon Natale, Happy Holidays and here's to cooking and eating our way into a fantastic new year! And, of course, exciting and inspiring variations for the Main Event itself - from traditional super-juicy turkey, festive ginger-baked ham, special trimmings and the Ultimate Christmas Pud, all the way to the special vegetarian Christmas feast, by way of goose or pork-and-cranberry options and a Prodigious Pavlova. The introduction is interesting, informative, and unexpected--combining ancient holiday customs with modern awareness and sensibility. This is an exquisite book, which manages to combine the most outrageous frivolity (it’s kind of like the Manolo Blahnik of cookbooks with its green ribbon, sumptuous pictures, and the big hardcover red and greenness of it) with absolute practicality in terms of the useability of its recipes, the practicality of its suggestions, and the tempting nature of the items chosen. With her no-nonsense approach and inspirational ideas, combined with reassuring advice and easy-to-follow, reliable recipes, Nigella Christmas is guaranteed to bring comfort and joy, and make sure the season of goodwill stays that way. As it was for mass consumption at the library, I decided to forgo infecting my friends with consumption. She is one of the most literary of all chefs (she once judged the Booker Prize), and it is certainly possible to just sit down and read this through as if it were a lighthearted, Christmassy novel. A belief in hearth and home and adhering to ritual and tradition when the world around us is so unsettling and uncertain.

Just in time for Christmas, Nigella Lawson has brought us a wonderful Christmas gift in her new cookbook Nigella Christmas. I especially like the way Nigella has organised this book, with chapters dedicated to ‘manageable mass catering’, ‘serve later sides’ and ‘stress free suppers’.Informative and engaging, Kitchen offers food for both cooks and eaters that is comforting but always seductive, nostalgic but with a modern twist, from “express” style recipes for the time-strapped, hectic week or leisurely slow-cook dishes for weekends and special occasions. With recipes for classics like Chestnut Stuffing, and Perfect Roast Potatoes you might think this is a nod to the Spirit of Christmas Past, but Nigella gives things her own unique twist with Pumpkin and Goat Cheese Lasagna, Fully Loaded Potato Skins, and Roast Squash and Sweet Potato Soup with Buttermilk-Blue Cheese Swirl. However, the ingredients are hard to get, and spendy to boot, so unless you're the kind of person who just regularly puts edible gold dust on cookies, or actually owns a fir-tree Bundt pan (or is willing and able to shell out for one), this is going to be a fun fantasy read and not an actual cookbook.
